Planning one product shoot that works on every channel

A good shoot day should give you the website photos, the posts and the reels. Here is how we plan one.

Content

1 shoot

photos, reels and posts from the same day

Most brands think about a product shoot as one thing: some nice photos. But a well-planned day can give you much more: the website images, the social posts, the reels, the detail shots and the ads, all from the same set-up. The difference is in the planning.

Start with the brief

Before anyone touches a camera, we agree what the shoot is for and where the pictures will live. A website needs clean, consistent images. Social needs variety and movement. Ads need space for text. Knowing this up front decides everything that follows.

Pick a look

We choose a small set of surfaces, backdrops, colours and props that match the brand, and stick to them. For a fragrance and home brand that might be soft neutrals and natural textures; for jewellery, deep fabrics that make gold and stones glow; for statues, warm lamps and wooden shelves. The set should feel like the brand before a single product is on it.

Build a shot list

  • The hero shot: the product on its own, clean and sharp.
  • The detail shot: a close-up of the finish, the stones, the texture.
  • The context shot: the product in a setting or being used.
  • The scale shot: a hand, a wrist or a shelf, so people know the size.
  • The motion shot: a short clip for reels and stories.

Light for the material

Gold, glass, fabric and matte plastic all react to light differently. For watches and jewellery we use precise lighting and macro lenses to show the dial, the setting and the stones. For food we want warmth and texture. Getting the light right on the day saves hours of retouching later.

Plan the deliverables

  • Website images in the ratios your site uses.
  • Square and vertical crops for the feed and stories.
  • Detail cards that zoom in on the best features.
  • Short vertical videos for reels and shorts.
  • A set of branded posts built around the logo and palette.

Edit as a set

Retouch and colour every image together so the whole set looks like one collection. A consistent set is what makes a feed or a catalogue feel premium and professional.

That is how we approach photography for brands like Sim&Ross, Belgee Jewellers, Jairolia, Jacob & Co and Dharma Statues: plan once, shoot once, use everywhere.
